The National Victims of Crime Awareness Week is an outreach initiative of the Department of Justice Canada’s Policy Centre on Victim Issues (PCVI). PCVI works towards improving the victim’s experience in the criminal justice system.
The next National Victims of Crime Awareness Week takes place April 13 to 19, 2008. The theme for the Week is “Finding the Way Together”
The key goal of the National Victims of Crime Awareness Week is to raise awareness about the issues facing victims of crime and about the services, assistance and laws in place to help victims and their families. The Week is also acknowledges the work of victim service providers and their dedication to assisting victims of crime.
Limited funding (up to $5,000 per project) will be available under the Victims Fund for projects that support the goals of the Week. These projects include those aimed at supporting events within the communities or other activities that raise public awareness about victim issues during NVCAW.

Applying for NVCAW activity funding
To apply for funding, please submit a proposal using the attached Application Form. Your proposal must describe how the activity will help support the objectives of the Victims Fund and the goals of NVCAW.
The budget for each proposed project cannot exceed $5,000. Given limited resources, to ensure as many communities and organizations are supported, only one project per applicant will be given funding consideration.
The federal government fiscal year runs from April 1 to March 31. Funding for National Victims of Crime Awareness Week projects will be available up to March 31, 2008 for planning and organizing activities prior to the Week, or from April 1, 2008 to April 30, 2008 for hosting/supporting an event during the Week. Funding will also be available that spans both fiscal years in order to give applicants some flexibility in planning/ organizing prior to hosting events during the NVCAW.
