International Cooperation Activities
The Department of Justice of Canada's International Cooperation Group (ICG) is or has been implementing a number of projects, including the following:
Czech Republic / Slovak Republic / Republic of Hungary
Under this project, which ended in June 2004, the ICG provided assistance on a number of matters, including criminal justice reform, juvenile justice, legal aid, alternatives to imprisonment and enforcement of child support orders.
Ukraine
The purpose of this project, which has now ended, was to promote integrity in the management of public affairs by transferring the extensive knowledge and experience available on this matter in Canada. The objectives were reached through various means, including the development of extensive background material and the holding of seminars in many cities of Ukraine.
Bangladesh
Under this multi-year project, the ICG provides assistance to the government of Bangladesh in four key areas: the drafting of laws ; the functioning of the Ministry of Justice ; the organization of the law commission ; and the reform of criminal justice.
French-speaking Africa
The ICG implemented over several years two initiatives in French-speaking Africa: one on the legal situation of women in eighteen countries of the region, and the other on crime prevention in Mali. These projects have now ended.
