MANITOBA JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, July 31, 2008 -- The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

The Honourable Robert G. Cummings, a Provincial Court Judge in the Province of Manitoba, is appointed a Judge of Her Majesty’s Court of Queen’s Bench, Trial Division, for Manitoba.  Mr. Justice Cummings replaces Mr. Justice R.H. Mykle (Brandon) who elected to become a supernumerary judge.

Mr. Justice Cummings received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Manitoba in 1973 and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Manitoba in 1976.   He was admitted to the Bar of Manitoba in 1977.  Mr. Justice Cummings was involved in a general practice in Neepawa, Manitoba from 1977 until his appointment in 1994. Mr. Justice Cummings has developed an expertise in the areas of family and criminal law.

This appointment is effective immediately.
