QUEBEC JUDICIAL APPOINTMENTS ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, July 31, 2008 - The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointments:

The Honourable Pierre Dallaire, a lawyer with Beaudry, Bertrand s.e.n.c.r.l. in Gatineau is appointed a Judge of the Superior Court of Quebec.

Mr. Justice Dallaire received a Master of Arts from the University of Ottawa in 1975, a Bachelor of Civil Law Degree from the University of Ottawa in 1980 and a Master of Laws from the University of Ottawa in 1980. He was admitted to the Quebec Bar in 1980. Mr. Justice Dallaire has been as associate with Beaudry, Bertrand s.e.n.c.r.l. since 1985. Mr. Justice Dallaire was a lawyer with Taché, Pharand from 1980 to 1985. Mr. Justice Dallaire has developed an expertise Civil Law, Municipal Law and Insurance Law.

The Honourable Daniel W. Payette, a lawyer with McCarthy Tétrault S.E.N.C.R.L., s.r.l. in Montreal is appointed a Judge of the Superior Court of Quebec. Mr. Justice Payette is replacing Mr. Justice R.E. Baker (Montreal) who elected to become a supernumerary judge.

Mr. Justice Payette received a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Ottawa in 1980. He was admitted to the Quebec Bar in 1981. Mr. Justice Payette has been with McCarthy Tétrault since 1987. Mr. Justice Payette was a lawyer with Duquette, Morneau, Belanger from 1985 to 1987, a lawyer with Gagnon et Lacoste from 1984 to 1985 and a lawyer with Campbell, Pepper, Laffoley from 1981 to 1984. Mr. Justice Payette has developed an expertise in Civil Law, Administrative Law, Health law and litigation.

The Honourable Genevieve Marcotte, a lawyer with Heenan Blaikie S.E.N.C.R.L., SRL in Montreal is appointed a Judge of the Superior Court of Quebec. Madam Justice Marcotte is replacing J.A. Guilbault (Montreal) who elected to become a supernumerary judge.

Madam Justice Marcotte received a Bachelor of Laws from McGill University in 1986. She was admitted to the Quebec Bar in 1987. Madam Justice Marcotte has been a lawyer with Heenan Blaikie SENCRL, SRL since 1998. Madam Justice Marcotte was also a lawyer with Lavery de Billy from 1987 to 1998. Madam Justice Marcotte has developed an expertise Civil and Commercial Litigation.

These appointments are effective immediately.
