NOVA SCOTIA JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, July 31, 2008 -- The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

The Honourable Kenneth C. Haley, Q.C., an assistant crown prosecutor/senior crown attorney with the Public Prosecution Service in Sydney, Nova Scotia, is appointed a Judge of the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia.

Mr. Justice Haley received a Bachelor of Science from Dalhousie University in 1974. Mr. Justice Haley received a Bachelor of Laws from Dalhousie Law School in 1977. He was admitted to the Bar of Nova Scotia in 1978. Mr. Justice Haley has been an assistant crown prosecutor/senior crown attorney since 1984. Mr. Justice Haley was a partner with MacLellan, MacDonald & Haley from 1980 to 1984 and a staff lawyer with Nova Scotia Legal Aid from 1978 to 1980. Mr. Justice Haley has developed an expertise in criminal law. In addition, Mr. Justice Haley was a member of the Management Committee for Public Prosecution Service from 1992 to 2005.

This appointment is effective immediately.
