QUEBEC JUDICIAL APPOINTMENTS ANNOUNCED

Ottawa, June 19, 2008 – The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointments:

The Honourable Marc St-Pierre, a lawyer with Joli-Coeur, Lacasse, Geoffrion, Jetté, St-Pierre in Trois-Rivière, is appointed a Judge of the Superior Court of Québec.  He replaces Mr. Justice R. Legris (Trois-Rivière) who elected to become a supernumerary judge.

Mr. Justice St-Pierre received a Bachelor of Law from Sherbrooke University in 1975.  He was admitted to the Bar of Quebec in 1976.  Mr. Justice St-Pierre has been an associate lawyer with Joli-Coeur, Lacasse, Geoffrion, Jetté, St-Pierre since 1988.  He was an associate with Normand et St-Pierre from 1981 to 1988 and a lawyer with Beaumier, Landry, Richard, Normand et associés from 1976 to 1980.   Mr. Justice St-Pierre has developed an expertise in labour law and administrative law.  In addition, Mr. Justice St-Pierre was President of the Bar of la Mauricie from 1996 to 1997.

The Honourable Paul Mayer, a lawyer with Fasken Martineau DuMoulin S.E.N.C.R.L. in Montreal, is appointed a Judge of the Superior Court of Québec.  He replaces Madam Justice N. Morneau (Montréal) who resigned.

Mr. Justice Mayer a Bachelor of Arts from Trent University in Peterborough in 1979, a Bachelor of Law from McGill University in Montreal in 1983, and a Doctorate in Law from Aix en Provence, France in 1985. He was admitted to the Bar of Quebec in 1986.  Mr. Justice Mayer has been an associate with Fasken Martineau DuMoulin since 1997. He was a lawyer with Martineau Walker (now Fasken Martineau DuMoulin) from 1987 to 1997 and a lawyer with Lafleur, Brown, De Grandpre from 1985 to 1987. Mr. Justice Mayer has developed an expertise in commercial leasing and the sale, purchase and development of commercial properties. In addition, Mr. Justice Mayer is Chairman of the Board of the Fonds d’indemnisation du courtage immobilier (FICI).

These appointments are effective immediately.
