MANITOBA JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

Ottawa, June 19, 2008 - The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

The Honourable Brian C. Midwinter, a Provincial Court Judge in the Province of Manitoba, is appointed a Judge of Her Majesty’s Court of Queen’s Bench for Manitoba.  Mr. Justice Midwinter is replacing Mr. Justice D.P. Bryk (Dauphin) who is to be transferred to Winnipeg.

Mr. Justice Midwinter received Bachelor of Law from the University of Manitoba, Robson Hall Law School in 1977.  He was admitted to the Bar of Manitoba in 1978.   Mr. Justice Midwinter was a Crown Attorney in The Pas Manitoba from 1978 to 1979, an associate with Carroll, Mullally, Paterson, Brawn from 1979 to 1980, a partner with Sheldon, Singleton, Midwinter, Brandon from 1980 to 1991, and a partner with Hunt, Miller & Combs from 1991 to 2005.  In addition Mr. Justice Midwinter was a supervising attorney for Northlands Legal Aid Office in Manitoba until he was appointed a provincial court judge to the Provincial Court of Manitoba in 2006.

This appointment is effective immediately.
