NOVA SCOTIA JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, March 3, 2008 – The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

The Honourable Duncan R. Beveridge , a partner with Beveridge MacPherson & Duncan in Halifax, Nova Scotia , is appointed a Judge of the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia. He replaces Mr. Justice F. A. Cacchione ( Halifax) who elected to become a supernumerary judge.

Mr. Justice Beveridge received a Bachelor of Laws in 1978 from Dalhousie Law and a B.A. in Economics in 1974 from Acadia University . He was admitted to the bar of Nova Scotia in 1979. Mr. Justice Beveridge has been a par tner with Beveridge MacPherson & Duncan since 1994, and a previous partner with MacInnes, Wilson, Flinn Wickwire from 1989 to 1994. He was also a partner with Burke Beveridge from 1984 to 1989 and a crown prosecutor with the Attorney General’s Department in Nova Scotia from 1980 to 1984. Mr. Justice Beveridge has developed an expertise in criminal law and administrative law.

This appointment is effective immediately.
