NORTHWEST TERRITORIES JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, February 1, 2008 - The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

The Honourable Mr. Justice John J. Gill, a Judge of the Court of Queen's Bench in Edmonton, is appointed a Deputy Judge of the Supreme Court of the Northwest Territories.

Mr. Justice Gill received a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Alberta in 1980, and a Bachelor of Arts with Honours from the University of Manchester England in 1975. He was a partner with the firm of McCuaig Desrochers and appointed to the Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta in 2005.

This appointment is effective immediately.
