MINISTER OF JUSTICE APPOINTS BOARD MEMBER TO THE CANADIAN HUMAN RIGHTS TRIBUNAL

OTTAWA , January 29, 2008 - The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the appointment of Réjean Bélanger as a part-time Board Member of the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal.

Mr. Bélanger is a bilingual lawyer from Quebec and sole practitioner in the law firm Réjean Bélanger, Lawyer & Mediator. His many years of experience will be considered a positive addition as a Board Member.

Established in 1977, the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal is empowered by the Canadian Human Rights Act to provide Canadians with an improved quality of life and an assurance of equal access to the opportunities that exist in our society through the fair-minded and equitable interpretation and enforcement of the Canadian Human Rights Act and the Employment Equity Act.

This appointment is effective immediately.
