QUEBEC JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, December 14, 2007 -- The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointments:

The Honourable Steve J. Reimnitz, a partner with Gauthier Bédard S.E.N.C. in Chicoutimi, is appointed a Puisne Judge of the Superior Court for the District of Montreal, in the Province of Quebec. He replaces Mr. Justice G. Mercure ( Montreal) who elected to become a supernumerary judge.

Mr. Justice Reimnitz received a Bachelor of Laws from Laval University in 1979 and was admitted to the Bar of Quebec in 1981. Since the beginning of his career he has practised with Gauthier Bédard S.E.N.C. Mr. Justice Reimnitz's practice expertise is in the areas of litigation, civil rights and policy. Mr. Justice Reimnitz is counsel to the Québec Bar, and a member on the arbitration committee.

This appointment is effective immediately.
