OTTAWA, March 2, 2007 -- The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:
The Honourable Glenn D. Joyal, a judge of the Provincial Court of Manitoba is appointed a judge of the Manitoba Court of Appeal. He replaces Mr. Justice C.R. Huband (Winnipeg) who elected to become a supernumerary judge.
Mr. Justice Glenn Joyal pursued Graduate Studies (Public Law and Political Theory) at Oxford University (1995-1996), received a Master of Arts (with distinction) from the University of Manitoba in 1992 and a Bachelor of Laws in 1986 after study at the University of Manitoba and McGill University. He was admitted to the Bar of Manitoba in 1987 and practised as provincial Crown Attorney in Manitoba (1986-1990), Justice Canada (1990-1997) and with the civil litigation section of Wolch, Pinx, Tapper, Scurfield in Winnipeg (1997-1998). Mr. Justice Joyal was appointed a judge of the Manitoba Provincial Court in 1998 where he continued his expertise in criminal law and constitutional law. He works in both English and French and has acted as a Member of several Provincial Court Committees. He has been Chair of the Board of Directors for St. Mary's Academy, a Member of Board of Directors for Cercle Molière Theatre and a Member of l'Association des juristes d'expression française du Manitoba.
This appointment is effective immediately.
